It only took the Barton Community College softball team the minimum innings Thursday to pick up a pair of victories at Cougar Field over Brown Mackie College.   Racking up four runs in two of the four innings in the opener, the Cougars took a ten run lead to the fifth surrendering a lone run in the final frame to win 10-1 then racked up ten runs in the second inning to coast for an 11-0 nightcap victory.   The twelfth straight win improves the Cougars to 14-1 on the season while dropping Brown Mackie to 1-5.   Barton’s next game will come Sunday as the Cougars welcome Cowley College to Cougar Field for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.

The big blow of the opener came off the bat of Brittany Wood as her eight long ball of the season drove in the first three runs.  One batter later fellow freshman Payton Summers lifted her second of the season staking Barton out to a four run first inning lead.  Leadoff batter Maddison Schofield joined the derby with a solo shot for her third of the season as the freshman went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Madison Didion dominated again in the circle running her record to 7-1 on the season but was blemished by the Lions’ final inning run breaking up a no-hit bid.  The freshman cruised through the first four innings and was a pitch away from getting leadoff Makaila Martinez out but a right field double led to two more singles ruining the shutout.  Didion did keep her consecutive innings streak of not surrendering a base on balls running the streak to twenty-four over her last five games while adding seven more strikeouts increasing her total to sixty-two for top ten in the nation.

A second inning ten run explosion all but sealed the Lions’ fate in the nightcap.  Lili Ertmann‘s two-run one-out double got things kick started with Cadie O’Donnell driving her home one batter later.  Ertmann, O’Donnell, and Schofield each had two hits with Jenna Hosey and Summers joining Ertmann with two RBIs each.  Summers blasted her second home run of the day with Holly Posegate knocking her second of the year over the fence as the duo went back-to-back to cap the inning.

Posegate earned her seventh win against no defeats going the distance striking out three while scattering four hits.
