The Barton Community College men’s track and field team competed this past weekend in Arkansas City in the Cowley College Tiger Invite. Just like their women counterparts, the Cougars sent a number of athletes to the track competing in various events for the first time taking four first place finishes within nineteen top ten placings while recording four national qualifying performances amongst four personal individual bests.
Sophomore Donald Daley highlighted the performances setting a new school record winning the hammer throw with a heave of 58.07m (190-06.00) breaking Garland Porter’s 2002 record of 57.18m (187-07.00).
The Cougars also grabbed a first place in the discus on Romario Antoine‘s national qualifying 46.63m (153-00.00) throw while Daley finished sixth at 43.05m (141-03.00). Antoine also had another national level mark in the shot put recording a 15.14m (49-08.25) throw to finish in fifth place.
The third of four individual winner case in the 110m hurdles as Kevin Turner bested the field with a national qualifying 14.67 with Jordan Washington‘s 15.76 placing sixth. The duo was back on the track for the 400m hurdles with Turner’s 1:04.13 placing seventh while Washington recorded his second personal best on the day crossing the line one place behind at 1:04.70.
Paul Kinney led six Cougars in the top eight of the 400m winning the event in his first time at 49.75. Joining Kinney running the event for the first time, Shakoy Burton was third in 51.04 followed by Michael Williams‘ fourth place 51.42 and fifth place finisher Antonio Carrasco‘s 51.73. Donneldo Harris was one spot behind at 52.69 with Devondre McGrew rounding out the Barton entries with an eighth place 54.03.
Kinney also led the Cougars in the short sprint with a second place finish in 21.91 while Williams was also competing in the event for the first time finishing second in 22.32. Harris placed ninth in a personal best 22.73 and Carrasco’s 23.23 finished twelfth.
The Cougars will next head to Canyon, Texas, competing in the West Texas A&M Classic and Multis held this coming Friday and Saturday.
