McPherson Qualify Three for Nationals

The 2015 NAIA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country National Championships are set for this weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina and McPherson College cross country are sending three individuals to the meet;Dixon Cooney and Michael Janzer from the men’s team and Laura Gibson from the women’s.  The trio qualified with their finishes at the KCAC Championships earlier this month.  This is the largest group of athletes in recent history to head to nationals for Mac XC.

The men’s field is made up of 36 teams, 85 individuals, and 20 conferences/Association of Independent Institutions; the 8–kilometer race will begin at 9:30 a.m. (CT).  Cooney ran a new Personal Record of 26:13.10 at the conference meet and led not only his team but was the first non-USM athlete to finish.  Janzer posted a time of 27:01.9 which put him in 12th overall.

36 teams and 82 individuals make up the field for the NAIA Women’s Championships; 10:30 a.m. is the estimated start time for the 5-kilometer race.  Gibson finished in sixth place overall at 19:28.3 in the KCAC Championships and looks to break into the 18-minute range on the flat course that makes up Charlotte’s course.

For the first time in the history of the NAIA, a post-race highlight show will be free to all fans through the NAIA Network; fans will be able to view the show no later than noon CST on Sunday, Nov. 22.
