Record setting Barton men’s golf runs away with KWU Fall Invite title

The Barton Community College men’s golf team continued its hot start to the season running away from the field by thirty-four strokes to win the Kansas Wesleyan Fall Invite title Tuesday.  The Cougars tore up Salina’s Municipal Golf Course with a new 36-hole school record 9-under 551 by firing a 5-under in Monday’s round followed by another solid 4-under in Tuesday’s final round.  Claiming the top two individual placings, three Cougars finished the tournament under par while six finished among the top twenty of the fifty-four competitors.

Natchapol “Putter” Srinoon‘s opened the tournament with a sizzling 5-under 65 capping off the two days with a 4-under 66 on Tuesday finishing at 9-under par 131 to win his first title of the season and third overall in his Cougar career.  Seokhun Kang‘s 67-66 rounds were just two strokes from the top for a 7-under 133 while fellow freshman Jakkapat Horsangchai finished fifth at 1-under 139 after an opening round 68 followed by a 71.

Ellinwood’s Jared Oelke‘s 3-over 73 final round propelled seven spots on the individual chart to finish tied for 11th with fellow sophomore Blake Huxman as the duo finished at 8-over 148.  Competing as an individual, Jestin Jackson was one stroke behind in a tie for 16th place as the sophomore dropped five spots from day one but held on to round out the six Cougars in the top twenty.

Riley Kane improved six strokes on the final day vaulting six spots to 39th with a 18-over 158 while Andrew Iverson had consistent rounds to come in 49th at 25-over 165.

The Cougars will have a couple of weeks away from competition before heading to Hutchinson, Kansas, for the Sterling College Invitational held October 12-13.
