Mayor Ben Lawrence informed the City Council that he would like to explore the possibility of establishing a recreation commission. He expressed there are fees that are attached to the city’s programs but those fees are not covering the cost to run the programs. Establishing a recreation commission would give the council the authority to tax not only the city, but the entire school district which would shift the tax burden from the city.
