Organizers of the lesser Known Lovelies plant sale are excited to return to in-person shopping for the 26 annual event that raises money for Dillon Nature Center.

After having the sale all online last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Betty Taylor said this year they are giving Dillon Nature Center members a choice in how they purchase their plants. They are going to put a percentage of plants online for DNC members to buy from April 21-23 for members only. Then on Friday night, April 29, they will have an in-person members-only sale at the center. On April 30, the sale is open to the public, starting at 8 a.m. until the plants run out.

There will be more than 20 varieties of plants available. The plants are also chosen because they can withstand hot and windy Kansas summers. They also cannot be purchased in packs, according to Taylor, at local greenhouses.

Some of these varieties are Gomphrena, Brazilian buttercup, milkweed, angelonia and parsley.

The plants are not in bloom on the day of the sale so photos of what they will look like are posted near the plants on sale day.

Dillon Nature Center Members can place their early orders online at hutchrec.com If someone is not currently a member, they can purchase or renew their membership to be able to participate in the early sale.
